Spotting a rogue trader is harder than you think, but there are a few signs which are a good indicator that your electrician may not be as trustworthy as you first thought; and as electricians ourselves we at First Strike Electrical are keen to keep our customers aware of the potential warning signs of a rogue electrician.
References
A reliable and trustworthy electrician will be more than happy to supply references – and with this in mind we suggest that you ask for references from your electrician. If the electrician avoids giving you references, start looking elsewhere for your services as they are obviously less than happy to give you the references you want.
Contact Information
If they only give you a mobile number make sure you ask for a landline and address; if they are unable to do this, make enquiries as you may discover that they are not as legitimate as you first thought.
Cheaper for Cash?
If you ask if they can do it cheaper and they suggest paying by cash to avoid VAT – this is a definite sign that they are rogue electricians. By paying with cash you will not create a paper trail and could end up in a muddle if they don’t do a very good job.
Start the Next Day
If they are able to start the next day this should ring a few alarms. Most electricians will be booked up and will find it difficult to fit you in straight away, and while speed is important you shouldn’t choose an electrician based on this.
These are a few of the warning signs you should be aware of when choosing an electrician in London, and remember – if in doubt call on First Strike Electrical. To contact us please click here to fill in our online contact form.
