Many people instantly go into panic mode when they experience an electricity power cut. However, in general it’s not something to worry over, and by following a few simple steps, you’ll stay calm and before you know it, your electricity will be back on!
Step 1: Are You Sure It’s an Electricity Power Cut?
First things first, check that there has been a power cut and that there’s not just a problem with your property. Have a look outside and see if the street lights are on; if they are, there hasn’t been a power cut. Check if your neighbours have also lost power or if theirs is working perfectly. Has everything turned off in your house or is it just the lights or appliances? If it’s just one, check your trip switches. If you have a prepayment meter, make sure you haven’t ran out of credit.
Step 2: Get in Touch with Your Network Distributor
If you’re sure it’s an electricity power cut, get in touch with your network distributor. They’ll be able to provide you with some more information about what’s happened and should be able to give you a rough estimate of how long it’ll be until the power will be back on. Also check on their social media, where they usually provide you with updates.
Step 3: Prepare for the Power Cut to Continue
If, by chance, the electricity power cut continues for a wide length of time, follow these steps. Keep checking on your frozen food; if it defrosts, it won’t be able to be frozen again and therefore will need to be eaten or thrown away. Turn off your electrical items by the plug, providing it’s not dangerous, to avoid them overloading or becoming damaged when the electricity comes back.
